Edge Technologies (former OVG real estate) operates worldwide, developing buildings in a holistic way, leaving the necessary room for creativity and innovation. Smart sustainability is at the core of the company, and understandably, at their buildings. That is why for their headquarters, Edge Olympic, they aimed for the highest possible: reaching a WELL V2 Platinum as the world’s first project. Aectual contributed to the project with a 3D printed meeting room interior of plant-based plastics, that can be entirely shredded and reprinted into new products after use.
It was late 2017, when architects Fokkema & Partners were drafting parts of the interiors for the Edge HQ, when they together with the team of Edge approached Aectual. They were looking for a way to create a meeting room that truly demonstrated the pillars of Edge: wellbeing, sustainability, design and technology, and they fell for the sustainable and innovative approach of 3D printing. They had a straightforward wish list:
- The products should be unique and tailored to the Edge brand
- The products should meet design demands (privacy, green additons)
- There should be no waste in the production and instalment process
- The materials should adhere to the highest WELL standards
Customized-to-fit
In a one-on-one consult meeting with Aectuals sales engineers, they presented the interior layout, which was matched with Aectuals customizable products. The need to create privacy, whilst maintaining a certain level of transparency was met with Aectual’s screens. The curves in the screen were designed in such a way that they enable the people inside to look outside but make it harder to look inside. Also, the corporate logo was subtly integrated in the panel design, creating a custom backdrop for the reception.
7 made-to-measure planters were added to the interior as well. They were made in different heights, as to provide green at eye level as well as standing height. To top it off, a bespoke unique meeting table with 3D printed landscape in its midst was added.
WELL certified and 100% circular
The plant-based planters, screen and table adhered to WELL standards. An additional sustainable plus was that the products are fully circular, as the material is re-printable. This means, that after use, Aectual take backs the products and recycles them directly into new products.
‘Aectual Circular' is now available for all Aectuals 3D printed products made of bioplastics, and enables clients to have a more flexible approach to interior design.
