Parhelion – A Custom Acoustic Wall Feature by Mae Engelgeer

Dutch designer Mae Engelgeer presents Parhelion, her first 3D-printed design in collaboration with Aectual. This innovative acoustic wall feature blends Engelgeer’s signature aesthetic—refined color palettes, dynamic patterns, and linear composition—into a striking piece of functional art.

Taking its name from parhelia, the atmospheric optical phenomenon where bright spots appear beside the sun with a rainbow-like radiance, Parhelion echoes this effect through its layered, gradient-like surfaces and rich hues.

Each piece is uniquely 3D printed using Aectual’s on-demand manufacturing process. Because the colors are individually blended during printing, no two designs are exactly the same. Engelgeer has created exclusive palettes, each combining three complementary tones that result in a strong graphical presence. This effect is further enhanced by a backing of contrasting acoustic PET felt.

Parhelion comes in three distinct color palettes: ALPHA, with a soft sand hue; DELTA, featuring deep purples; and OMEGA, in a rich blue tone.

It is available in two sizes: a large circle with a 150 cm diameter, and a smaller version measuring 75 cm across. Use one large piece for a bold statement, or combine with several smaller ones for a more playful, modular effect.

Beyond its visual appeal, Parhelion offers high acoustic performance, making it ideal for hospitality spaces, work environments, and homes seeking both comfort and style.

Sustainability is at the core of the design: Parhelion is made using recycled, plant-based 3D-printed plastics and recycled PET felt, aligning with modern eco-conscious values.

With Parhelion, Mae Engelgeer and Aectual offer a harmonious fusion of art, acoustics, and sustainability—an atmospheric experience for the eyes and ears.
